Feeding Raw Food to Our English bulldogs

Our Breeding Philosophy

We believe in providing the best nutrition for our dogs through a balanced raw diet. We use the 70-10-10-10 method, which ensures a well-rounded meal that meets all their nutritional needs. Not everyone does the same thing. Some RAW feeders like to use whole prey, some like to just chop it up and serve and some like to lightly cook it. Whatever method works for you. We like to grind ours up and make a burger like meat out of it.

We included a list of all our products we use below

When We Start Feeding Raw

  • Puppies: Introduced to raw at 4 weeks old when transitioning to mush.
  • New Bulldogs: Begin raw feeding at 8 weeks old upon arrival.

The 70-10-10-10 Formula

Our feeding method consists of:

  • 70% Muscle Meat
  • 10% Bone
  • 10% Organs
  • 10% Fruits & Vegetables

70% Muscle Meat

We use multiple proteins for variety and balance. Our primary choices include:

  • Chicken (we use leg quarters for more bone)
  • Beef:  Tripe, Heart and Tongue are also good muscle meats
  • Pork Loin (not a lot of pork)
  • Venison (seasonal substitute for beef )

10% Raw Bone

  •  We grind chicken leg quarters for bone content.
  • Chicken is sourced in 40lb cases from Karns (de-skinned before grinding to reduce fat).
  • If feeding without bulk prep, adding a chicken wing or foot per meal ensures proper bone intake.
  • Raw chicken bones are safe, but watch for fast eaters to prevent choking.
  • For puppies, we hold the wing or foot as they chew, helping with chewing habits and reducing food aggression.

10% Organ Meat

  • 5% Liver + 5% Other Organs (Spleen, Pancreas, Kidneys)
  • Avoid excessive liver to prevent Vitamin A toxicity.
  • Heart, Stomach, and Tongue are muscle meats, not organs.

10% Fruits & Vegetables

We add pureed (for better digestion) fruits and vegetables for extra vitamins:

Primary Ingredients:

  • Green Beans, Spinach, Broccoli, Rutabaga (prevents UTIs)
  • Ginger, Dandelion Greens (helps with allergies)
  • Red Cabbage, Carrots (limit carrots to prevent yeast issues)
  • Blueberries

Seasonal/Switch-In Options:

  • Asparagus, Cranberries, Kale, Lions Mane Mushrooms

Meal Preparation Process

        1. Calculate Daily Food Amount

  • Take adult weight (or estimated adult weight) and multiply by 2.5% (between 2-3% works, but we use 2.5%).
  • This gives their daily feeding amount.
  • Puppies eat 4 meals per day, adults 2-3 meals per day (we prefer 3 meals to prevent hunger).

       2.Grinding & Mixing the Food

  • We use a meat grinder twice: We Use this Grinder from: MEAT YOUR MAKER
    • First pass: Larger grind plate (to crush bones).
    • Second pass: Smaller grind plate (for a fine, blended mix).
  • This ensures all meats, organs, veggies, and bones are evenly distributed.

      3. Storage & Freezing

  • Food is portioned into small storage containers for 31+ days.
  • Freezing kills potential parasites before feeding.
  • Cost: about $112 per dog, per month (sometimes more meals per batch = cost savings).

Serving the Raw Meals

  • Thaw meals as needed.
  • We split their daily meal into 3 meals per day.

  • Supplements & Extras:
    • Ultra Oil (for skin & coat health)
    • Raw Goat Milk & Eggs (especially for nursing dams)
    • Fish & Bone Broth
    • Plain Greek Yogurt & Plain Cottage Cheese
    • Beneficial Herbs (see our holistic blog for more natural remedies!)
